Steve here:
This morning we left our nice little campground on Otto Lake and headed south.
After a reasonable period of driving we stopped in Cantwell for some breakfast. We tried to stop at the "world famous Sam's blueberry sourdough pancakes", but he was out of business. Sidebar, there are SOO many business along the way that have died. At each and every one you could sense a degree of disappointment.....
Anyway, this Cantwell Cafe has the right idea. The chef/waitress/dishwasher/cashier was a wonderful lady of about our vintage who, although being pushed to her limit, rose to the occasion! She wouldn't let me wash our dishes, but was very thankful for the suggestion!!
We then made our way over to Talkeetna, where our Waterford neighbor said was the best place for a Denali flight.
Oh,yes! On the way we caught a nice glimpse of the mountain - more than we had seen the day before, at a road stop along the highway. We also met a nice couple on their Harley. They are from Colorado and know just where Joan Welch Wolfong lives. They even told me how to pronounce Saguache!!
Talkeetna is a crazy, busy summer spot. A true tourist mecca!
We were unable to find a spot to park with the camper, so - as fate would have it - we headed down a road that said airport. Bubba's idea.
We were able to find a place to park and then made our way to K-2 Aviation.
Wow!
The pilot, Patrick, flew us toward the mountain , as he was supposed to do, but then the clouds came in and he got us a last view of the summit for the day! Amazing!!
What an amazing sight!
When we landed, we headed for the Denali Brew Pub as we were exhausted from our flight!
Our day needed at the Big Bear Campground and RV Park in Wasilla. Very nice and clean!
